Who Are We?
At the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), we deliver world-class pre-hospital critical care to people across the North of England. Behind every mission are our dedicated staff and volunteers—the people who make our lifesaving work possible.
We are passionate about innovation, excellence, and creating a culture where people can thrive. Now, we’re looking for an experienced HR leader to join our Senior Leadership Team and help us build a workplace that is every bit as outstanding as the service we provide.
The Role
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead on all things People and Culture at GNAAS. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll be a key partner to our CEO and Trustees; shaping strategy, influencing decisions, and ensuring that our people are at the heart of everything we do.
You’ll balance day-to-day operational delivery with developing long-term strategies that drive growth, resilience, and innovation. Most importantly, you’ll champion a values-led, inclusive culture that ensures wellbeing, equity, and psychological safety are embedded across the organisation at every level.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll provide expert leadership across the full people agenda, from employee relations and organisational development to wellbeing and change management.
You’ll lead the design and delivery of progressive HR, OD and wellbeing practice; ensure compliance with employment law, and support colleagues at every stage of the employee lifecycle. Acting as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, you’ll bring insight, challenge, and fresh thinking to help shape the organisation’s future direction.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is MCIPD accredited, qualified to Masters level, and experienced in senior HR leadership.
You’ll have a proven track record across the full employee lifecycle, with the confidence to work at both strategic and operational levels. Skilled in employee relations, employment law, and organisational change, you’ll also be a natural collaborator who inspires trust and builds strong partnerships.
Above all, you’ll be driven by values, excited by transformation, and passionate about shaping a positive culture.

What We Offer
At GNAAS, you’ll be part of a passionate, high-performing charity where people truly matter. This role offers the chance to make a direct impact on an organisation that saves lives every day, while working alongside a close-knit, values-led leadership team.
We offer a competitive starting salary of £70,100 with progression potential, hybrid/flexible working, and opportunities for professional growth. You’ll also enjoy the satisfaction of knowing your expertise is helping to keep our helicopters flying and our teams thriving.
Ready to Shape the Future of GNAAS?
If you’re driven, values-led, and ready to take on a bold HR leadership role, we’d love to hear from you.
To apply, please send a filled-in copy of our Application Form to recruitment@gnaas.co.uk, telling us why you are a perfect fit for this position and what you can bring to the charity.
