Can you take on the Race to the Base?

Race to the Base is back! Choose your team and distance and raise as much money as possible for your local air ambulance so we can continue our life-saving work across the North of England! This March, you can run, walk or cycle the distance that our critical care team fly when returning to base from the RVI's Major Trauma Centre in Newcastle. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or looking for your first fitness challenge, there is an option for everyone. You can take on this challenge either on your own, or you can complete it as a team with your friends, family, classmates, or colleagues!

Are you ready?

With 32, 78, or 130-miles to choose from, select your distance and start raising vital funds for our life-saving service.

Each distance is captained by each area of our critical care team. They are taking on the virtual challenge themselves and will be there to support you along the way. Watch out for their regular tips and useful information to help you achieve your goals. This is for everyone, you can complete your miles any way you want! Run, walk, cycle or swim. You can complete your miles all in one go, or split them across the month! Are you ready?

By taking on this challenge, you’re ensuring we can continue to cover the distance and save lives across the region.

You can complete it any time you like between 1 – 31 March 2022.  Entry is £10 including a medal and a certificate to say thank you for your achievement.

If you go the extra mile and raise over £50 in sponsorship money, we’ll also send you our brand new GNAAS neck warmer. You can fundraise using JustGiving and share your challenge on social media!

What is the Race to the base?

A virtual fundraising event taking place in aid of GNAAS from 1st – 31st March. Choose to cover 32, 78 or 130 miles throughout the month and raise sponsorship to help our critical care team to continue saving lives.

How you complete the miles is up to you! Run, walk, cycle – the choice is yours.

How do I take part?

You can sign up using the form above.

You’ll then receive your e-fundraising pack with all you need to help you along the way and make the most of your fundraising. When you sign up you will receive an e-fundraising pack telling you how to get involved.

How much money do I need to raise?

We ask everyone taking part to aim to raise at least £50. Don’t forget, if you raise more than £50 you’ll receive a GNAAS memento!

Our critical care team respond to over 1600 call outs a year. Your fundraising will help keep our team flying and responding to the most critically ill and injured people through the North. Lives will be saved and families kept together.
