Yorkshire footballer airlifted with broken leg

A 25-year-old man was airlifted with a badly broken leg sustained during a football match at Fylingthorpe, near Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire, yesterday.

GNAAS was called in at 12.35pm when road crews signalled that access to the patient was difficult because he was some way from the road and in the middle of a muddy field.

The helicopter flew in from Durham Tees Valley Airport, bringing with it a doctor and paramedic team. The patient, a man from Sleights, was treated at the scene before being loaded into the helicopter and flown to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The flight took ten minutes and the man’s condition was stable upon arrival at hospital.
