Man seriously injured in DIY accident

The Great North Air Ambulance Service yesterday responded to an incident in Stainton, near Penrith, Cumbria, where a 70-year-old man had sustained a very serious leg injury while carrying out DIY.

A land crew from the North West Ambulance Service, a local doctor, and GNAAS attended the scene to aid the patient.

He was subsequently airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, a major trauma unit, where specialist staff were on stand-by to receive him from the doctor and paramedic crew of the aircraft.

The flight time from Stainton to Newcastle was just 22 minutes and the man was stable upon arrival at the hospital.
