STAFF at a law firm have completed a zip-wire across the Newcastle skyline for their charity of the year, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

The team of nine from Sintons Law traversed the River Tyne from the Tyne Bridge to the Royal Navy Reserve unit, on April 16.

Staff members at the Newcastle-based firm hope to raise £12,000 for GNAAS throughout the year. They had hoped the zip wire alone would raise £1,500 but has to date raised around £2,000.

Iona Sweeney, legal secretary in healthcare at Sintons, said: “GNAAS is a charity that is very worthwhile to support. The hard work that they do day in day out is astonishing.

“I was surprised that GNAAS was entirely funded by the public, they raise a remarkable amount of money to keep saving lives yearly, so this money will go far.

“Supporting the charity in fun ways like this is absolutely worthwhile and people certainly wouldn’t have survived without them. People are able to carry on and live their lives.”

On the day, the group were met with hail, but the clouds gave way to sunshine as they began their journey.

Miss Sweeney, of Gateshead, said:  “Everyone from Sintons absolutely loved it, it was fantastic. The weather eventually got out nice and sunny for our zip slide so everyone was happy.

“I’ve done smaller zip wires in the past, but I have been wanting to do something bigger and more imaginative for our charity of the year.”
