Hartlepool schoolboy completes 100-mile bike challenge


A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy has completed a 100-mile cycle ride in under 10 hours in support of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). Owen Newbury, from the Fens area of Hartlepool, raised £1,300 for the charity in his mammoth trek.  He set off on two 50-mile circuits starting at Dyke House Sports & Technology College, alongside his teachers, on October 1. Owen said: “I saw the air ambulance land at a car crash and decided I just wanted to help save somebody’s life.” Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “A huge thank you to Owen and his team for taking on this great feat in aid of the charity.
