From walking to whoppers: Corporate Partner Thomas Graham’s fundraising efforts

From braving a 22-mile walk in harsh weather to taking on a burger eating challenge, our Corporate Partner Thomas Graham have supported GNAAS in a variety of ways.

Thomas Graham is a family run business, which has been serving the local community for over 130 years. Since opening their doors in 1892, they’ve grown significantly across Cumbria, Lancashire and southwest Scotland, now operating branches in Carlisle, Barrow, Blackburn, Egremont, Kendal and Morecambe.

The company offer a wide variety of products from their six core divisions, Industrial Supplies, Steel, Welding, Workwear and PPE, Hygiene and Cutting Tools.

Alongside their products they also offer a range of services, such as power tool repairs, hire, paint mixing, washroom services and key cutting.

Their commitment to serve the local community extends beyond business and GNAAS were chosen as their charity of the year for 2024 and 2025 after a staff vote.

Jessica Scott-Lamont, Trade Counter and Marketing Executive, at Thomas Graham said: “Some of our staff members have friends, family and neighbours who have received life-changing care from GNAAS. Also, several of our staff frequently visit the Lake District and have seen the helicopter flying through the mountains on their way to a rescue, so they understand the importance of the service to the local area.”

Over the past couple of years, our Corporate Partner Thomas Graham have hosted numerous charity events for GNAAS including non-uniform days and bake sales, along with several larger fundraising challenges.

During their annual VAT Free Event, the business hosted the ultimate eating challenge “The Chopper Whopper”. This entailed eating a burger with an enormous stack of 12 fillings in the quickest time. Marek from their Kendal branch secured the win in an incredible two minutes and 26 seconds.

In September last year, 35 staff members braved harsh weather conditions to walk the Ullswater Way, which is 22 miles.

They also ran a blind auction on selected steel products and donated 10% of all proceeds directly to GNAAS.

Overall, they have raised nearly £9,000 since 2024 and have a close working relationship with our senior corporate relationship manager Natasha Banks.

Jessica said: “GNAAS is a brilliant charity, not just in what they do, but they have a truly amazing team. We have worked alongside Natasha over the past two years, she is always available to support with events, fundraising ideas etc. She even invited us to the Langwathby base for their Corporate Partner event, during which, we got the chance to meet other partners, we listened to a family who GNAAS have directly helped and heard from the paramedics and doctors. We also enjoyed a visit to meet the crew over tea and coffee, witnessing firsthand the professionalism and urgency in which they operate with. They are truly amazing.”
