AN all-action event featuring competing teams of rugby players, pilots and local businesses will help raise money for the county’s air ambulance.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is holding an It’s a Knockout challenge and family fun day to raise money for its Pride of Cumbria aircraft, which is based at Langwathby, near Penrith.
Participating teams will take on an obstacle course, some of it in fancy dress, to see who comes top of the league table and wins the coveted GNAAS cup.
Teams can still enter the event, which takes place at Kendal Rugby Club, on Sunday 29th June.
Alongside the It’s A Knockout challenge will be a family fun day featuring face painting, a bouncy castle, fun stalls, children’s crafts and refreshments to keep everyone entertained. Entry is free.
Subject to availability, the Pride of Cumbria aircraft will also make a visit to the club so that everyone has a rare opportunity to meet the crew, take photos and have a tour of the air ambulance. GNAAS mascot, Miles the Bear, and Kendal Rugby Club mascot, buzz the hornet, will be on hand for children.
Stacy Hucker, of GNAAS, said: “Competitors will be able to run, jump and paddle their way through the competition to see if they can become the 2014 Cumbria Champions and take home the It’s A Knockout trophy.
“It’s great for team building but the fun day is great for families who want to enjoy a day out in the local area while raising money for a good cause. The teams get very competitive but it is sure to be a great laugh.”
The cost of entering a team of ten is £500 which can be raised through sponsorship.
This will be the first event of its kind to be held in the Cumbria region. Last year’s competition raised more than £7,000, which went to supporting the charity’s air ambulance service that covers, Cumbria, North East and North Yorkshire.
There will also be a Darlington-based It’s a Knockout challenge, at Darlington Rugby Club, on Sunday 6th July.
