About the Role
As we continue to develop and expand our clinical service, we are seeking experienced HEMS Doctors to join our multidisciplinary team on a variable-hours basis.
In this role, you will deliver immediate lifesaving interventions, provide safe and effective in-transit critical care, and support inter-hospital transfers. Working alongside Critical Care Paramedics, pilots and the wider charity team, you will operate in complex, time-critical environments, delivering the highest standards of pre-hospital emergency medicine.
You will also play an active role in education, clinical governance, audit, research and service development, helping to shape and continually improve the care we provide to patients across the region.
If you would like to discuss the role, please contact Dr Philip O’Donnell – Medical Director (Philip.ODonnell@greatnorthairambulance.co.uk) and Dr Laura Duffy – Deputy Medical Director (laura.duffy@greatnorthairambulance.co.uk).
About You
You will be a highly motivated and clinically credible doctor with a strong background in emergency care, anaesthesia or intensive care, and a clear commitment to delivering high-quality pre-hospital critical care.
You will have completed an MBBS (or equivalent) and hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise. Essential qualifications include ALS, ATLS and APLS (or equivalent), alongside a parent specialty in emergency medicine, anaesthesia or intensive care, with FRCA Primary or MRCEM (or equivalent).
You will bring significant experience within your parent specialty, with a minimum of 12 months’ experience in HEMS or pre-hospital emergency medicine, advanced airway competence and experience in pre-hospital emergency anaesthesia. Experience in formal anaesthesia training, aviation competencies, and involvement in audit, research or service development would be advantageous.
Please note that these posts do not attract a National Training Number (NTN) in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM). However, the role provides educational support and guidance to enable completion of the PHEM examinations.

Why Join GNAAS?

You will work alongside nationally recognised clinicians within a supportive, values-led organisation that is committed to clinical excellence, professional development and continuous improvement.
This role offers flexibility, high clinical challenge and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for communities across the North of England and the Isle of Man.
