We ask that all candidates notify us of any specific dietary requirements prior to commencement of the course. There are no catering facilities on site and so lunch will be being delivered each day.ย ย

Personal Protective Equipment
Reveal answer icon

This will be required at various times throughout the course. Candidates are advised to bring their own PPE if available (outerwear/Hi-Vis/boots/RTC helmet/RTC gloves) if you do not have these some will be provided. We recommend all candidates bring sturdy boots as a minimum. PPE will be provided for those who do not have their own and also by the fire service for specific scenarios.

On Friday 8 September, we will be working both alongside and in the river. On this day, it would be best if you bring a towel and some spare outdoor clothing. You will be provided with a dry(ish) suit on the day. If you have a dry robe, this may also prove beneficial.

On Tuesday 12 September, we will be using breathing apparatus.ย  When using this we will need candidates to be clean-shaven and bring a pair of cotton trousers and a cotton top to wear underneath your fire ground kit.

WE NEED TO KNOW CLOTHING SIZES AND SHOE SIZES WELL BEFORE THE COURSE BEGINS.

The close proximity to Durham means that there are numerous hotel / B&B options. We can secure a reduced rate at Bowburn Hall Hotel; upon booking, mention it is for a course with the Great North Air Ambulance Service, and this should suffice for the lower rate per night. ย

There is a โ€˜Days Innโ€™ hotel approx ยฝ mile from the training centre, located at the services just off the A1. Durham has a range of options, including 3 Premier Inns.ย

There are also numerous bed and breakfasts in the area.

We will also be holding the course night out this week in Durham so somewhere close to Durham would be advisable if you’re wishing to attend.

There are 2 optional nights over the course of the 2 clinical weeks. We will be delivering an evening session on ultrasound with pizza on the Wednesday 6 September. This will be a relaxed evening session with some food and learning

We will also be heading for a night out, most likely in Durham on Wednesday 13 September. This will involve a meal and drinks (meal cost included in course fee). This happens to coincide with a late start the following morning…
