About the course
The Obstetric Emergencies Course aims to build confidence and competence in dealing with obstetric emergencies in the pre-hospital and emergency department environments.
Consisting of both skill and simulation sessions, the day will include short lectures, skills stations and simulation teaching, delivered by subject matter experts, including practising pre-hospital clinicians and midwives.
Candidates will leave the course with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide critical care to mother and baby in potentially life-threatening circumstances.
Course content
Skills teaching will cover:
- normal delivery
- breech delivery
- shoulder dystocia
- resuscitative hysterotomy
- newborn life support
Simulation teaching will cover a variety of maternal emergencies and maternal trauma.
The course is aimed at both paramedics and doctors (ST3+) looking to expand their skill set and working in, or having an interest in, prehospital care or emergency care.
