Create a piece of art inspired by the Great North Air Ambulance Service – let your imagination soar!

The Great North Air Ambulance Service is calling on your talented children to brighten up its base with their artwork.

It’s been business as usual throughout the pandemic for our frontline doctors, paramedics and pilots, who have been taking extra precautions while providing life-saving critical care on the scene.

Prior to the outbreak, the team would regularly host visits from former patients and supporters of the charity. But with all public visits cancelled, the team has launched an art competition for children in order to “brighten up the base”.

The Competition

We’re launching a competition with Hawthorns Logistics, offering children the chance to have their artwork recreated as part of a collage on a lorry trailer, touring the country for everyone to see!

The best artwork will be judged by our aircrew and will also take pride of place in an exhibition at the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s headquarters, where the winners will be invited to come along and meet our mascots.

Your work will also feature in the Great North News, the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s newsletter.

You can use whatever medium you like, be it paints, pastels, pens or pencils.

How to enter

Please email a photo or scan of your artwork to competition@greatnorthairambulance.co.uk with the heading Art Competition 2020.

The competition is split into three age groups: under 7s, 7-11, and 12 years and over, so please include your name and age in your email.

If your submission makes the shortlist, we’ll be in touch with further details after the competition closes. Please keep the original artwork safe as we may need you to send it in.

The Prizes!

Winners from each age category will have their artwork displayed in an exhibition at the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s headquarters in Eaglescliffe, and you’ll be invited to the airbase where you can meet our mascots.

Your work will also feature in the Great North News, the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s newsletter.

More of the best artwork will also be printed on the side of one of Hawthorn Logistics trailers as part of a montage. You might even be able to spot your picture touring the country!

The rules

If shortlisted, we will require the original artwork. If you want your artwork returned, please supply a self-addressed stamped envelope with the correct postage and packaging.

When taking a photo of your artwork to send to us, please make sure you use natural lighting. Dark or unnatural light can result in a distorted image colour/ appearance.

All entrants must be 16 or under and should ask permission from a parent or guardian before entering.

Prizes are subject to availability. If in circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to provide the stated prize, we will try to arrange an alternative. No cash alternative will be offered.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service reserves the right to cancel the competition at any time, if deemed necessary or if circumstances arise outside of our control.

Hawthorns Logistics

Hawthorns Logistics are long-time supporters of the Great North Air Ambulance Service and currently have seven trailers supporting the charity. They have previously also raised funds and awareness through the creation and sale of limited-edition model lorries, and donated the opportunity to name one of their trucks as an auction prize for the charity’s Air Angels ball, at which director Chris Kilsby and the team are frequent guests.

We are incredibly grateful for Hawthorn Logistics’ continued support.
