WARNING: unsuitable for the faint-hearted!
Described as ‘The Daddy’ of UK sportive by Cycling Weekly, the Fred Whitton Challenge is famous for its increasing difficulty.
A challenge is exactly what this is as riders take on 114 miles of the Lake District’s most strenuous roads and climbs on one of Britain’s toughest routes.
You’ll be spurred on with two feeding stations on route and an exciting event village serving food and drink, as well as live entertainment, it’s certainly not one to be missed!
If your friends and family want to get involved too, why not bring them along to volunteer on the day? All marshals and event assistants will receive a guaranteed place, with a reduced entry fee in 2022.The Fred Whitton Challenge website
The Fred Whitton Challenge team will be on hand to support you throughout the day, as you take on one of the hardest single-day rides you will ever complete.
If you’re a beginner, we encourage you to gain experience in a 100-mile sportive before you enter, as the route takes in an astonishing 3950m of climbing.
You’ll have a true sense of achievement as you cross the finish line known you’ve helped the Great North Air Ambulance Service save lives. Because of people like you, last year we were able to attend 42 cycling-related incidents across the North.
A contribution of your entry fee from the Fred Whitton Challenge will go towards our mission. If you would like to help fund our service through sponsorship, please let us know and we will send you a fundraising pack, full of useful information and materials to help you smash your goals.
The Fred Whitton Challenge raised over £24,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service last year.Fundraise on JustGiving
