In May 1822, Thomas Maynell, chairman of the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company (S&DR), laid the first rail, for the first passenger railway in the world.

Thomas Maynell was followed by a parade as he travelled in an open carriage from his home in Yarm to the world’s first ticket office at St John’s Well, Stockton-on-Tees.

The 1st Trail Run celebrates the history of the world’s first passenger railway, with a scenic 10-mile run along the iconic 1822 parade route.

It’s an event for participants of all ages and abilities to come together for two great causes and celebrate this historic event.
