In May 1822, Thomas Maynell, chairman of the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company (S&DR), laid the first rail, for the first passenger railway in the world.

Thomas Maynell was followed by a parade as he travelled in an open carriage from his home in Yarm to the world’s first ticket office at St John’s Well, Stockton-on-Tees.

The 1st Trail Run celebrates the history of the world’s first passenger railway, with a scenic 10-mile run along the iconic 1822 parade route.

It’s an event for participants of all ages and abilities to come together for two great causes and celebrate this historic event.

The Route

The 10-mile event starts at the Locomotion Hotel, Eaglescliffe. Participants will then take a train to Dinsdale Station.

Starting at Middleton One Row, the route follows the River Tees to Yarm Bridge, then joins the 1822 parade route. The run returns via Victoria Park, along Albert Road, and then onto the finish line at the Locomotion Hotel, Eaglescliffe.

Entry fee is £15.00 and £7.00 for under 16’s.
