A GROUP of hardy individuals have tackled the Ullswater Challenge to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

The team of eight kayaked down Ullswater before climbing Helvellyn via Striding Edge and descending via Swirral Edge. They then returned to their kayaks for the final stretch back up Ullswater, towards Pooley Bridge.

The event which took place on July 10 was organised in conjunction with outdoor activity providers, Distant Horizons, and raised around £1,600 for the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance.

Emma Johnson, of Distant Horizons, said: “The group did really well despite the challenging weather. They completed the challenge in really good time, and some even managed to fit in a jump into Ullswater, off a crag on the lake shore, before paddling back to Pooley Bridge.”

Liam Martin, of GNAAS, said: “They pushed themselves to the limit and raised money for a great cause at the same time. We are extremely grateful. Huge thanks to our volunteers Bruce, Julie and James who helped out on the day too.”
