Rescue launched after car and wagon collide

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was yesterday called to the A69 near Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, where a car and an HGV had collided.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, was trapped in his vehicle.

He was treated at the scene by the land and aircrew paramedics before being cut out of his car.

He was then flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary at Newcastle with serious head and leg injuries.

The police, fire, ambulance and aircrew worked together at the scene to ensure a speedy and safe treatment of the patient.
