Raffle winner donates half her prize money back to GNAAS

โ€œYouโ€™re joking.โ€ Those were the words of Elizabeth when she found out she had won ยฃ10,000.

In December our paramedic Hollie had the pleasure of surprising Elizabeth with the news she had won the top prize in our Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere raffle.

The 80-year-old from Whickham was both thrilled and shocked and said she planned to treat her family during the Christmas holidays as well as give back to GNAAS.

Elizabeth kept her word and this month she very generously donated half of her prize money back, which was ยฃ5,000.

She said: โ€œI couldnโ€™t believe it when they told me that Iโ€™d won. I havenโ€™t won anything in my life so I was gobsmacked.

โ€œIโ€™m in a good financial position so I wanted to use the money to support local charities, and thatโ€™s why I sent half of the money back.

โ€œThe job GNAAS does is tremendous. They are simply amazing and need as much support as they can to keep them going.โ€

In addition to donating to GNAAS, a charity she has supported for nearly ten years through regular giving and purchasing raffle tickets, she also donated ยฃ1,000 each to the RNLI and St Oswaldโ€™s Hospice.

She said: โ€œTheyโ€™re all good genuine charities that are local to me, so I know where the money is going.โ€

As well as supporting several charities, Elizabeth kindly volunteers at her local library in Whickham twice a week โ€“ her generosity knows no bounds!

Thanks to the support of Elizabeth and everyone else who bought raffle tickets, we raised an incredible ยฃ113,000 for our charity.

Keep an eye out for our prize draw raffle which will be launching very soon, as well as our annual raffle which will again be running later in the year.
