Pride of Cumbria called after woman injured by horse

A 48-year-old woman was airlifted by the charity’s Pride of Cumbria helicopter this morning after being injured by a horse.

The woman, of Great Asby, is thought to have been feeding the horse when it spooked and stepped on her.

She sustained serious chest injuries in the incident.

The Pride of Cumbria was called at 8.15am and made the short journey from Langwathby, near Penrith, where it is based 365 days a year.

The woman was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The flight took 21 minutes and the woman arrived in a stable condition.
