Mountain biker hurt after Lakes fall


A mountain biker was airlifted to hospital after falling from his bike in the Lake District at around 12pm yesterday (Apr 9). The 18-year-old was on a track near Auterstone Wood, above Ullswater, and suffered head and back injuries in the fall. The Great North Air Ambulance Service, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team and Penrith Mountain Rescue Team all worked together to rescue the patient. The casualty was stretchered around 700 metres down the fell and transferred to the GNAAS aircraft before being flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment..
