The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to a man who had collapsed at his home in Redcar and was critically unwell at 3:35pm yesterday (Tues).

The helicopter landed on the field at Newcomen Primary School in order to get the medical team to the patient. A road paramedic had already begun treatment and due to the severity of his condition, the patient was anaesthetised by GNAAS doctor-led trauma team.

The man was then transported to James Cook University Hospital by road because of the relatively short distance to Middlesbrough, for specialist care. He was accompanied by the crew.
