A man was administered blood after a crash between a car and a van on the A1 around 5 miles north of Alnwick this morning (Feb 6).

The man suffered serious multiple injuries and was initially trapped but released by emergency crews at the scene. He was then anaesthetised by the Great North Air Ambulance Service doctor and administered blood.

He was flown to the Newcastle’s RVI in 12 minutes.

This is the third time that blood has been administered to a severely injured patient since the service began the ‘Blood on Board’ project in January.
