GNAAS hosting circus-themed balls in the North East and North West

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is celebrating its 21st birthday with circus-themed charity balls in October and November.

Both events promise to be a lavish circus spectacular, with a range of entertainment including carnival games, circus performers, and a live band.

The balls are taking place at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on Friday 20 October at 7pm and at The Halston in Carlisle on Friday 10 November at 7pm, and the North East ball will be hosted by Pam Royle, a television journalist and charity ambassador for GNAAS.

The dress code is black tie and circus-themed glamour and tickets cost £75 per person.

Tickets include a drinks reception, three-course meal, live music from Soul Survivors and a disco, as well as a raffle and spectacular prize draws.

Tracey Wright, events lead at GNAAS, said: “We had a fantastic time at last year’s twenties-themed ball which celebrated the charity’s 20th birthday, and it was lovely to see so many people dress up for the occasion.

“We’re really looking forward to this year’s circus theme and promise it will be an amazing night. Last year’s balls combined raised more than £75,000, which was enough to fund at least 15 missions, but we would love to surpass this amount this year.”

Since celebrating 20 years as a charity, GNAAS has achieved several milestones in the last year, including beginning to operate 24/7 in the North East, expanding their night-time service in Cumbria to four nights a week and trialling carrying whole blood on board their aircraft and rapid response vehicles.

It costs the charity £8.5m a year to remain operational, and events such as the ball help to raise vital funds which enable the service to continue helping those in need across the region.
