Girl, 9, airlifted to hospital after falling off skateboard


A nine-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after she fell off a skateboard at South Park in Darlington on Sunday (June 07). The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to the scene at 3.35pm. The young girl had sustained a serious head injury but thankfully had been wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

The young girl had sustained a serious head injury but thankfully had been wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. She was treated at the scene before being flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Also that day, the GNAAS crew were deployed to Dilston, near Hexham, where a 62-year-old man had gone into cardiac arrest.

The air ambulance crew worked alongside staff from North East Ambulance Service and the patient was resuscitated before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by road.
