PLANNING is well underway for a fundraising ball in Carlisle in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
Fun will certainly be at the heart of the fundraising black-tie event – with a circus theme.
The Big Top Ball will take place at the Crown & Mitre Hotel, in the city centre, on Saturday December 5.
It’s an evening where entertainment is set to feature a hula-hoop performer and other circus acts, alongside a three-course dinner, live band, disco and auction.
Ruth Davey, event organiser, said: “The nights are always really good fun. Happening when it does, it’s like a pre-Christmas party. It’s a great chance to get dressed up, go out for a fun night and support the charity.”
The charity’s annual ball in the city is fast becoming a highlight of the social calendar and this year all of the money raised will be go towards The Cumberland News’ SkyCall Appeal.
ITV Border presenter Pam Royle, a high-profile supporter of the cause, will be hosting the event.
As well as raising thousands of pounds buy more lifesaving equipment, the night will also be a chance for many supporters to meet charity staff and crew members.
“It’s a great chance for the crew to come and meet those who do so much to help our work and see the support we get from the community in an informal setting,” added Ruth.
“It’s a real reminder of how much what they do means to people. We rely on their generosity and support.”
The crew got into the circus spirit as they launched the ball this week.
Cumberland News’ SkyCall Appeal is raising £60,000 for GNAAS. Readers’ generosity has already seen £20,000 spent on buying two portable ultrasound scanners.
The final £40,000 will be used to buy two cutting-edge defibrillators.
