A FLYING doctor will take on the London Triathlon in a bid to raise cash for charity.
Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) doctor, Jonathan Howes, will tackle the 1,500 metre open water swim, 40K bike and 10K run to raise funds for the charity on August 6.
Dr Howes, 34, from Newcastle, works in emergency medicine at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary and flys on the region’s air ambulance.
He has set his sights on beating the chief executive officer of TSB Bank, Paul Pester in the challenge, as the company’s boss is sponsoring all of its charity partners £50 each and will double the cash if they can ‘beat the boss’.
Dr Howes said: “I’m looking forward to being put to the test in this iconic event. I’ve been doing lots of training with my wife, Hannah, and I’m hoping to raise as much money as I can. Fingers crossed I can beat the boss too.”
Speaking of working with GNAAS, he said: “It is the best job in the world. GNAAS are awesome. The amazing supporters of the charity fundraise for us every day and I want to use this fantastic opportunity to work hard and show that we appreciate what they do.”
