The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Thirlmere at around 8.30am this morning after a man fell ill at the wheel.
The patient, in his 50s, was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew at the scene before being flown to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary within 10 minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
Shortly after, GNAAS airlifted a man from the Cumberland Infirmary to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for specialist treatment.
The man, in his 20s, had been involved in a serious crash on the A66 near Penrith in the early hours of the morning.
