Among the festivities and Christmas fun, our wonderful fundraising heroes have been working hard to raise funds throughout December.
Let’s take a little look into what festive fundraising they’ve been up to in the past month…
Fundraisers of the future
Following an inspiring visit to our base, pupils from Ireby Church of England Primary School held a fundraiser for GNAAS, including yummy cakes, and a few guessing games.
Despite being a small school, they raised an incredible £96.21.
Winning donation
We felt like winners when we received this cheque from Change Competitions. The online competition company donate 50% of their profits to charities and good causes and we were lucky enough to receive £700.
Tractor fun
Even a storm couldn’t stop the tractor run in the Isle of Man. Thousands turned out to support the Isle of Man Young Farmers Festive Tractor Runs which were led by a lit-up helicopter attached to a green tractor (we love how on brand they are!)
They’ve raised over £6,000 on JustGiving alone, and the funds raised will be split across two charities including GNAAS.
Just Keep Trucking
We couldn’t let the Isle of Man have all the festive fun with their tractors. Over in Northumberland 170 wagons and vans lit up the countryside and raised an estimated £8,000 for good causes, including ours.
This is the fourth year in a row that local businesses have taken part in The North Tyne Christmas Truck Run and they’ve already set a date for next year’s truck run which is 5 December.
Surprise donation
It’s always rewarding for our crew to reunite with their patients and see them in much better circumstances.
Sheila Wilson from Walney Island was airlifted after a fall from her loft in 2020, and she wanted to come and say a personal thank you to the team who saved her life.
Sheila and her husband Martin visited our base in Langwathby, Penrith, where they met paramedic Terry and surprised him with a cheque for £500.
Thoughtful fundraising
We’re incredibly humbled when we receive donations from people who have required our service. Earlier this month Orla McBride and her family presented a cheque for £3,000 after hosting a fundraising event in support of GNAAS.
Orla from Egremont was airlifted in July after a horse riding incident. Paramedic Mike attended the incident and met Orla for a second time at our base in Langwathby.
Digging for gold
Despite an incredibly difficult year, including poor weather limiting their digs, and losing one of their founding members, Steve, the County Durham Metal Detectorists still managed to raise £8,000. We’re super grateful for their ongoing support which has culminated in £28,000 raised in the last four years.
Superb merch sellers
Our lovely Corporate Supporters Husqvarna sold £250 of our merchandise and raised an additional £150 after their colleague Karen made a Christmas cake and held a guess the weight competition.
Dancing shoes at the ready
Fundraiser Jo and volunteer Jennifer were treated to a line dancing session when they visited the Barnes line dancers. The group raised over £1,000 from raffles and cake sales and split the money between GNAAS and the community centre where they meet every Monday morning.
Dart’s a lot of money
Our volunteer Neville kindly visited the Shiremoor Ladies Darts Team where he was presented with a cheque for £2,000. The group are one of our regular supporters who carry out various fundraising during the season, including a bonus ball.
