Biker airlifted after Sunderland road crash


A BIKER has been airlifted to hospital after a road crash in Sunderland. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to reports of a serious road traffic collision at Witherwack, Sunderland, at 6:05pm yesterday (October 21). A man in his 20’s was anaesthetised at the scene after sustaining life-threatening head injuries.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to reports of a serious road traffic collision at Witherwack, Sunderland, at 6:05pm yesterday (October 21).

A man in his 20’s was anaesthetised at the scene after sustaining life-threatening head injuries.

The GNAAS doctor-led trauma team treated and stabilised the man before he was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he arrived in a critical condition. The flight took 12 minutes; by road this would have taken around 47 minutes.
