An auction mart has raised more than £18,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
Leyburn Auction Mart in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, has raised the five figure sum after a charity auction on February 28th.
The mart saw 160 lots go on sale that included a year’s supply of auction mart dinners, 100 sheep to be clipped, animal feed, farm supplies and restaurant meals – all donated by local people and businesses.
This is the second mart of its kind held in aid of the air ambulance, with the previous event raising £13,000 for the charity.
Auctioneer Stephen Walker, said: “One of our director’s sons was airlifted four years ago and being in a rural area, a lot of our customers have either used or know somebody who has used the air ambulance, so it is close to all of our hearts.
“Many farmers donated the money raised from lambs and calves in the lead up to the sale and it just goes to show the loyalty of local people around the dales.”
GNAAS volunteer, Brian Whitehead, attended the day, he said: “The generosity of local farmers really was incredible. The extra workload in making the auction happen should also be recognised – the printing of catalogues and organisation of the day – all alongside their daily jobs. It was a fantastic event.
“Thank you to the mart for their ongoing support. The funds raised will continue to support our lifesaving service.”
