A man falls 30m from Broad Stand


A 30-year-old man sustained critical injuries after falling more that 30m from Broad Stand, between Scafell and Scafell Pike on Sunday (18th).


The climber was treated for serious head, chest and leg injuries after the incident.

He was treated at scene by a GNAAS doctor and Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team doctors.

Rescue 177 from the Royal Navy also attended but was not able to winch the casualty from the scene due to his location.

The casualty was extricated by Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team to the Pride of Cumbria where he was anaesthetised and then flown to the major trauma centre at Royal Preston Hospital.
