A GNAAS doctor has been awarded an MBE in the New Year honours list.

Dr Theo Weston, of Penrith, has been recognised for services to victims of trauma. Alongside his work as a GP, he has been volunteering as a rapid response doctor for more than twenty years in total, including his ongoing service to GNAAS.

Dr Weston, of Penrith, said: “It’s a huge honour and a big surprise – I never dreamt I would be worthy of such a prestigious honour but I’m absolutely delighted.

“I also want to give credit to all the others who have supported me over the last 20 years, allowing me to do this kind of work.

“And my family have been so supportive, allowing me to drop things at the drop of a hat.”

Graeme Pickering, chief executive of GNAAS, said: “Theo’s medical expertise and extensive knowledge of the local area make him a vital asset to the charity and the people of Cumbria as a whole.

“There are countless people out there who will have benifitted from Theo’s care, so it is entirely fitting that he has been honoured in this way. We are all very proud of him.”
