Call for entries for gruelling ‘Hell on the Harbourside’ event

Are you looking for a unique sporting challenge? Wanting to take on something a little different other than just another running event? Fancy supporting the work of the Great North Air Ambulance Service? If you answered yes, then you should look no further than the quiet harbour town of Whitehaven as it hosts the Hell on the Harbourside challenge event.

Hell on the Harbourside takes place on the May 19th and is a multi-terrain obstacle race, being organised to raise some much needed funding for the aiWr ambulance and is open to all to take part in. Competitors will run, walk and crawl their way around Whitehaven harbour and the surrounding area – negotiating both natural and manufactured obstacles.

The event course is relatively unique as it is taking place on the edge of the town and around the harbour area – most similar events take part in more remote locations such as muddy fields. There isn’t another event in the UK which has such a unique location. The challenge has been designed to utilise some of the harbour’s natural obstacles, but includes obstacles which have been designed by former military personnel just to make it a bit more interesting as you make your way around.

Hell on the Harbourside is billed as a challenge, rather than a race, to encourage entries from people of all abilities. The competitors will challenge themselves against the course and its obstacles, while having a bit of fun as they are doing it.  The event is open for individuals or teams to enter, and provides a unique test of strength and stamina.

All people entering will have the option to enter one of two courses; Tough (4 miles, 15 obstacles) or the La’al bit tougher course (6miles, 20 obstacles, including such gems as ‘Heartbreak Ridge’ the ‘Cobble Hobble’ ‘Power Shower’ and ‘The Up and Under’).

The event is being staged on a not for profit basis, the entry fee has been kept comparatively low, with discounted entries opening at only £26, but you will have to hurry as the entries for this event have been limited to 500 because of the low tide times and the safety of competitors. Part of the entry fee (after the running costs of the event) will be given directly to the air ambulance, this has been possible as a result of the support given by local businesses.

Event entries are open now at www.west-lakes-adventure.co.uk
