Incident round up: 14-15 April


It was a busy weekend for our crews. Here are some of the incidents we attended over the past two days:


On Saturday at 2pm we were called to assist the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team at Blease Fell near Blencathra, where a paraglider had crashed. The man, believed to be in his 60s, had sustained a back injury and was assessed and treated by the GNAAS paramedic and doctor team before being airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The flight took 10 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.

At 2.10pm we were called to assist the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) in Spennymoor where a woman, believed to be in her 40s, had fallen off her horse and injured her back. She was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led trauma team before being flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The flight took 10 minutes and she arrived in a stable condition.

At 2.52pm we were called to assist the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team at Hart Crag in the Lake District where a woman, believed to be in her 80s, had collapsed and was suffering from abdominal pain. She was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led trauma team before being flown to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The flight took 10 minutes and she arrived in a stable condition.

At 4.10pm we were called to assist NEAS in Stanhope, Bishop Auckland, where a male motorcyclist, believed to be in his 20s, was involved in a collision with a car and sustained a leg injury. He was assessed and treated by the GNAAS paramedic and doctor team before being flown to James Cook University Hospital. The flight took 15 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.

On Sunday at 12pm we were called to Simonburn, north of Hexham, where a male motorcyclist, believed to be in his 50s, was involved in a road traffic collision. He was assessed and treated by the GNAAS paramedic and doctor team before being flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The flight took 13 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.

At 2.13pm, we were called to Appleby where a man, believed to be in his 70s, was in cardiac arrest. After landing in a field, a member of the public offered to drive the crew to the scene. The patient was resuscitated by first responders and the North West Ambulance Service. Our crew assessed the patient and flew him to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The flight took 13 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition. Our team wished to thank the member of public who volunteered his help and gave them a lift from the landing site to the scene.

At 4pm we were called to Greystoke where a woman, believed to be in her 40s, was involved in a single-vehicle road traffic collision. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The flight took ten minutes and she arrived in a stable condition.
