On Friday February 23, our team encountered temperatures of -10 degrees while on a rescue 3,000ft up Pillar in the Lake District.
A man in his seventies had fallen around 100m while out walking. Thankfully, he’d only sustained cuts and bruises but in those extreme temperatures, it was vital he got the help he needed, fast.
We worked alongside Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team on the mission, while the Search and Rescue team were able to winch the patient to safety. He was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
