Woman celebrates 90th birthday with fundraiser for GNAAS

A WOMAN has celebrated her 90th birthday by raising more than £350 for the air ambulance service which saved her son’s life. Margaret Hollins, from Scorton, informed her family she did not want presents for her milestone birthday, instead asking for money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). Mrs Hollins was surrounded by family and friends at her party in the Farmers Arms, Scorton, last weekend, and handed over the cheque for £365 to the air ambulance. Mrs Hollins has five children, 20 grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many had contributed to the fundraising campaign. Daughter-in-law Sharon Hollins said: “She is grateful to GNAAS because they came to the aid of her son David after he came off his motorbike – ultimately saving his life. “Her children Philip, David, Richard, Michael and Carol have agreed to make her fundraising total up to £1,000 by donating the rest to the air ambulance.” Mrs Hollins has lived in Scorton for 60 years after growing up in Harrogate.
