The 62-year-old man went into cardiac arrest and an off-duty nurse was on hand to provide CPR, before being joined by the North East Ambulance Service and GNAAS trauma team. Our doctor performed a procedure called cardioversion to help bring the man’s heart rate back to normal and he regained consciousness.

He was then taken to Freeman Hospital in Newcastle to receive further treatment. His condition is described as critical.
