Weekend round-up: 18th and 19th June


GNAAS was called to incidents in Houghton-le-Spring, Bellingham, Bishopton and Haltwhistle at the weekend. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, on Saturday at 9.40am where a 38-year-old man was found to be in cardiac arrest.

GNAAS was called to incidents in Houghton-le-Spring, Bellingham, Bishopton and Haltwhistle at the weekend.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, on Saturday at 9.40am where a 38-year-old man was found to be in cardiac arrest. The patient was resuscitated by by-standers before he was anaesthetised by the GNAAS trauma team. He was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Newcastle, in a flight that took just eight minutes. He arrived in a critical condition.

At around noon on Saturday, GNAAS was called to Bellingham, Northumberland, where a woman had fallen around 20 feet from a waterfall while out walking her dogs. The GNAAS doctor-led trauma team worked alongside the Bellingham community first responder, the search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick, Northumberland Police, Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) paramedics and Hazardous Area Response Team in treating the woman for severe head and neck injuries. She was flown to the RVI in a flight that took 15 minutes. She arrived in a stable condition.

GNAAS was called on Sunday at around 11am to Bishopton, near Darlington, where a man had fallen from his horse and sustained back injuries. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew worked alongside NEAS paramedics in treating the 35-year-old before administering pain relief. He was flown to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, in a flight that took just six minutes.

Later yesterday afternoon, at around 4pm, GNAAS was called to Haltwhistle, Northumberland, where an elderly motorcyclist was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The 75-year-old was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew for minor injuries before being flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle in just 12 minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
