Walking team members needed for charity ramble

GNAAS is hoping to enlist some supporters to walk a section of the Pennine Journey as part of a walking festival.

The North Pennines Walking Festival takes place from 28th Sept to Oct 6th in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Alfred Wainwright’s Pennine Journey.

On the first day of the festival, Saturday, September 28th, teams of walkers will combine to complete the Wainwright route, in one day.

The GNAAS team has been allocated a 10.5 mile section of the 247 mile route, over the moors from Blanchland to Devil’s Water in Northumberland.

A spokesman for the festival said: “Join us for this interesting walk, starting and finishing in the historic village of Blanchland where Wainwright stayed on his Pennine Journey. We’ll pass lead mining remains, walk along an ancient drove road, cross heather moors with great views and explore the lovely valley of Devil’s Water.”

Anyone wishing to represent GNAAS in the historic event should contact Jim either by emailing jim2@greatnorthairambulance.co.uk or calling 01325-487263.

The guided walk, rated ‘hard’, will start at Blanchland main car park at 9.30am.

The day will culminate in an evening celebration event at Mickleton Village Hall, with supper and guest speaker, Ron Scholes, author/lecturer and travel writer.
