A brief update on two of the jobs attended by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) yesterday:

Yesterday, at 3.30pm, the GNAAS Pride of Cumbria aircraft was called to a house in Appleby-in-Westmoreland, where a 51-year-old man had tripped, fallen and broken his leg. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew worked alongside North West Ambulance Service paramedics in treating the patient. He was given strong pain relief before being flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, in 13 minutes. The same journey by road would have taken around 45 minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.

At 6.55pm yesterday, the GNAAS Guardian of the North aircraft was called to a house in Bishop Auckland to assist paramedics from North East Ambulance Service with a man who had suffered severe burns. The local man, believed to be in his 30s, was treated for burns to his head, neck, arm and chest on scene before he was flown to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. The flight to hospital took just 12 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.
