Serious crash on A1 sparks air rescue


The Great North Air Ambulance Service’s Guardian of the North aircraft was called in at 1pm yesterday after a two vehicle smash on the A1, near the Metro Centre, Gateshead. Working alongside paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service, the GNAAS team treated the woman at the scene before transferring her to the aircraft and flying her to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Her neck injury was described as serious.  The flight took just three minutes and the woman arrived in a stable condition..
