Henley Rhys Foster, of Kelsick Park, suffered scalds to his neck, left shoulder and arm after pulling a cup of tea onto himself in July.

Mum Rikki-Leigh Johnston, 26, a teacher at Distington Community School, rushed home from work to be with her son.

The pair were flown to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary by the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance.

Miss Johnston said: “The air ambulance team were fantastic. They made Henley comfortable and put me at ease.”

His great-aunt Nichola Johnston, 46, of Kennedy Road, a sales assistant at the village’s One Stop shop, and store manager Clare Southwell raised £1,377.22 for the Great North Air Ambulance from events at the store on Main Road and at the Pack Horse Inn, Low Seaton.

They collected around 100 bags of toys and clothes which will be sold by the charity and go towards its running costs and medical equipment.

Volunteer, Alun James, collected the donation and bags from the store this week.
