Royle treatment for air ambulance ball guests

HUNDREDS of people turned out to support the region’s air ambulance at a fundraising ball last night.

The Air Angels Ball was held at the Hilton in Gateshead in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

The event was hosted by GNAAS patron, ITV news anchor Pam Royle, and was attended by aircrew, patients and supporters of the charity, which operates three helicopter air ambulances across the North-East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Although the takings are still being counted, event organiser Ruth Davey said thousands of pounds had been raised which would all be ploughed back into keeping the aircraft flying.

She said: “What had such a brilliant night and are genuinely humbled at the generosity shown by our supporters.

“The money raised here will be spent on rescuing people in their hour of need, so we’d like to thank everyone who made this possible.”

Last year, GNAAS needed to raise £5.1m to survive.
