Pensioner airlifted after being struck by machinery


A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital after being struck by machinery in Hartlepool. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the scene, near to the power station, at 11:15am on Sunday. The 71-year-old man had sustained back injuries after being struck by a piece of lifting machinery. He was treated by the GNAAS aircrew before being airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough in a flight which took five minutes.

He was treated by the GNAAS aircrew before being airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough in a flight which took five minutes. By road this would have taken around 29 minutes. The patient was stable on arrival.
