ITV’s Pam Royle will host the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s Big Top Ball at The Grand Marquee, Wynyard Hall, County Durham, on Saturday May 16.

The annual event raises thousands of pounds every year to support the charity’s three air ambulance helicopters.

Ms Royle, who is a patron of GNAAS, said: “We always have such a great night and I’m sure this one will be no different. It’s a wonderful theme, you can’t help but have a good giggle at the circus.

“As well as having a good time, we will be raising money for something which we all feel is very important, with all the proceeds going to supporting the life-saving work of the crew and aircraft of the Great North Air Ambulance Service.”

Emma-Louise McRoy, a professional hula hoop and contortionist dancer, originally from Sunderland but now based in London, is performing free of charge.

She said: “I perform on the London cabaret circuit but I just wanted to do something for this North-East charity and help in any way I can.”

Darlington clown Tommy Bungle, real name Malcolm Singleton, will perform at the event after reading a Facebook appeal for circus acts to come forward.

He said: “The air ambulance is a fantastic cause and we are looking forward to helping out while having a lot of fun. I am very proud to be involved.”

Mr Singleton will perform alongside Marko’s Circus Workshop, aka Mark Taylor of Middlesbrough.

Attendees can also expect a drinks reception, three course meal, disco, silent disco, circus games and sideshows. A raffle and auction will also take place.

Tickets cost £60 and are available by calling GNAAS on 01325-487263 or by clicking here.
