Our inaugural volunteer celebration event

It was tremendous to see so many ground crew volunteers turn out to our VERY first volunteer celebration event. To those that made it, thank you for making the journey!

Thanks must also go to those who helped make the day a success, from the baking skills of 13-year-old Abbey Steel to the village of Garrigill for making us feel very welcome in their village hall.

The event was organised so that we may collectively recognise and celebrate the incredible work of our ground crew volunteers. Fifty two weeks a year our wonderful volunteers work tirelessley raising awareness across the region, as well as giving vital support to the administration areas of the charity. The occasion was also used to mark National Volunteers Week and the charity’s fifteen year anniversary.

The day began with motivating words from the charity’s chief executive, Grahame Pickering, as well as a heartfelt presentation from volunteer James Atkinson and a fantastic acoustic performance by talented volunteer Ben Conroy.

The day continued on with further reflection upon the contribution of all of our volunteers, with tongue-in-cheek ‘spoof awards’ handed out in special recognition. So congratulations to Amanda Simmister, Bruce Evans, Jill Libby and James Atkinson who each received their own special award. Each volunteer in attendance also received a limited-edition ground crew pin badge, which we hope everyone will wear with great pride.

We are hopeful that this event will reappear in next year’s calendar and remain and permanent fixture for years to come.

If you have the time to give and have considered volunteering, contact us today, as we are currently recruiting for volunteers on a one-off and regular basis.
