Man will battle his fear of heights in skydive for GNAAS

A MAN will battle his fear of heights when he takes part in a skydive to raise vital donations for the Great North Air Ambulance Service. Gary McDonald, 37, an accountant from Stockton-on-Tees, will swap his suit for a harness and complete the 10,000ft dive. He will brave the drop at Durham Tees Valley Airport on August 22, alongside his friend and colleague Dan Hedley. Gary said: “We get a 30 or 40 minute training session and that’s it.

I’ll just have to scream as we go down. I knew if I was to get over my fear, I wanted to do it for charity and the GNAAS is fantastic. They are an invaluable asset to the North.”

He has set his sights on raising around £500 for the charity.

Gary said: “I’m both incredibly nervous and excited. I hope whatever money I make will help towards the costs of keeping the helicopters up in the air.”

To skydive from Durham Tees Valley Airport, call Skydive St George on 01325-337929. Participants must raise a minimum of £300, which includes the cost of the jump. GNAAS can provide sponsor forms, a GNAAS T-shirt and we have an online giving site createanddonate.co.uk
