Injured Northumberland horse rider airlifted to hospital


A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after the horse he was riding stumbled after a jump and fell on top of him. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Kirkheaton, Northumberland, at 9:29am yesterday (October 21). The 25-year-old had sustained a serious chest and back injury. He was stabilised by the GNAAS crew and flown to the major trauma centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, for specialist care.

He was stabilised by the GNAAS crew and flown to the major trauma centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, for specialist care. He arrived in a stable condition. The flight took five minutes; by road this would have taken around 40 minutes.
