The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the scene at 2:45pm yesterday (October 13), after the woman, in her 50s, injured her leg on Brown Hills near Glencoyne.

The GNAAS team administered strong pain relief at the scene and a Royal Navy Sea King that was in the area offered winch assistance. Given the location, it was decided that this would speed up the patient’s removal from the fellside and she was winched into the Sea King before being flown to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further treatment.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were also in attendance.
