Incident Round-up: July 28 – 30

Here are some of the incidents attended by the Great North Air Ambulance since Friday:

On Friday at 1.55pm, we were called to the A66, near Brough, where a female, believed to be in her 60s, was involved in a single vehicle road traffic collision. She had sustained head and severe leg injuries and was flown to James Cook University Hospital. The flight took 18 minutes and she arrived in a stable condition.

On Saturday at 11am, we were called to Fir Tree, near Crook, where a man, believed to be in his 30s, had suffered a very serious arterial bleed whilst driving. The patient was with his mum who administered first aid as she is an ex-nurse. Two police officers were flagged down and helped apply direct pressure to the bleed which most probably saved his life. The GNAAS team mobilised in support and were able to use specialist dressings in an attempt to regain control of the bleeding. He was flown to James Cook University Hospital for an emergency operation. The flight took 11 minutes and he arrived in a critical condition.

On Sunday at 3.05pm, we were called to Ullswater where a man, believed to be in his 50s, was injured in a motorcycling incident. He suffered a leg injury and was flown to Royal Preston Hospital. The flight took 25 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.
