Here’s to the runners

On Sunday September 11, more than 200 wonderful supporters took part in the Great North Run in support of the Great North Air Ambulance Service.  We can’t thank our runners enough.

Our Great North Run representation has always been strong and this year didn’t disappoint. The two hundred we had taking part this year is our biggest ever GNAAS contingent, so we would like to thank everyone who ran in the green and white and all those who supported them. Some ran in memory of lost loved ones, some ran in gratitude for the help they had received and some ran just for the fun of it! Our Facebook page was inundated with comments and photos. Among our many inspiring runners were: 78-year-old Allan Armstrong who ran with family members; Linda Christie who ran her very first GNR in memory of her son who lost his life after being involved in a motorbike accident; Suzanne Wilson who ran in gratitude as her husband’s life was saved thanks to our expert medical team; five staff members from our loyal supporters Simpson Group who ran in memory of their beloved former colleague Graham, who was airlifted yet tragically lost his life. As well as these incredible supporters a number of GNAAS staff also donned their running shoes in support of our service, with representatives  from the lottery team and fundraising team taking part.

It only leaves us to say a huge thank you to a number of people and organisations who helped make the day extra special. Thank you to Marks & Spencer Washington who donated supplies, the Percy Pigs and fruit went down a treat with our runners! Sainsbury’s Local Normanby and JTF Wholesale North Shields – thank you for your refreshments also.

And lastly, thank you to our wonderful volunteers who welcomed our runners,  Phil, Jill, Moira and masseur Jodie.

It’s deservedly one of our most popular events and we have been taking bookings for next year’s run. If you are interested in running, supporting or volunteering next year, please contact us.
